CLOVERDALE THEFT LEADS TO PURSUIT; SUSPECT OUTSTANDING


At approximately 0541 hours, The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a theft in progress at the Cloverdale Fire Station on George Cyrus Road. It was reported that a green and silver Chevrolet pickup was stealing fuel from an onsite commercial fuel tank. The fuel was being put into large black barrels in the truck bed. A patrol deputy responding located the vehicle at the intersection of Fryrear Road and Highway 20. The deputy attempted to stop the truck but the driver fled. The deputy initiated a pursuit of the truck, which traveled westbound on Highway 20 to Peterson Ridge Road. The deputy lost sight of the truck near the intersection of Peterson Ridge Road and Brooks Scanlon Logging Road.

The vehicle was last seen traveling west on Brooks Scanlon Logging Road. Additional deputies later saw the vehicle in the city of Sisters but did not pursue the vehicle due to the reckless driving observed in the city limits.

Deputies continued to search the area and we unable to locate the vehicle. The truck was later reported as stolen from the NE Redmond area of Deschutes County. The truck is described as an extended cab dually with Oregon license plate, VTU078. The truck is green in color with a beige stripe.

Deputies were assisted by the Oregon State Police in their search for the stolen truck. There were no injuries in the incident and the maximum speed reached during the pursuit was 90 MPH on Highway 20.
