While all eyes were on the Milli Fire raging to the west of Sisters last week, Cloverdale firefighters caught a fire in a chicken coop before it could spread to an attached building. On Friday, August 18, Cloverdale firefighters were called to a reported structure fire at 17552 Plainview Ct. Callers reported a chicken coop attached to a house was on fire. Firefighters arrived to find that the burning coop was attached to the residence's garage. With assistance from the Sisters-Camp Sherman fire district, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire with minimal damage to the garage. The chicken coop was a total loss, and numerous chickens succumbed to smoke and flames. Assistance was provided by the Black Butte Ranch and Crooked River Ranch fire districts who provided coverage in the area during the fire. This fire occurred during the height of the Milli Fire, when local districts had increased staffing due to the large forest fire and the solar eclipse. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Oregon State Fire Marshal's office.
